Claims of Voter Manipulation
Congress leader Tikaram Jully has accused authorities of large-scale electoral irregularities in Rajasthan, focusing on Tijara, Bhiwadi, and Alwar constituencies. He claimed that voting patterns showed abnormal spikes late in the day, suggesting possible manipulation. Multiple voters were reportedly registered at the same addresses, raising concerns about vote authenticity.
Jully alleged that in several areas, voters selecting Congress found their votes recorded for the BJP symbol, the lotus, pointing to potential electoral fraud. He also said outsiders were added to voter lists, undermining the fairness of elections.
Context and Political Response
These allegations come after the Election Commission of India (ECI) dismissed earlier claims of “vote theft” and issues in the Special Intensive Revision of voter lists as baseless. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is conducting a Voter Adhikari Yatra in Bihar, protesting alleged manipulation and demanding fair elections.
Concerns Over Voter List Revisions
Jully criticized the ECI’s approach in revising voter lists, emphasizing that genuine voters should not be removed, while ensuring fake entries are prevented. He urged simplified verification to avoid burdening citizens, especially daily wage workers, with excessive documentation.
BJP Response and Call for Transparency
BJP spokesperson Laxmikant Bharadwaj dismissed the allegations, claiming Congress is looking for excuses for electoral setbacks. Jully stressed the importance of transparent elections and urged proper investigation into reported mismanagement and vote irregularities in Rajasthan.
