In a major security operation ahead of Republic Day, police in Nagaur district, Rajasthan seized a massive cache of explosives and detonators, arresting a local man in connection with the recovery.
Massive Explosives Recovery
Acting on a tip-off, authorities conducted a late-night raid in Harsaur village on Saturday. During the operation, police recovered 9,550 kg of ammonium nitrate, packed in 187 sacks, from a farm, Nagaur Superintendent of Police Mridul Kachhawa confirmed.
Ammonium nitrate has previously been linked to significant blast incidents, including the November 2025 explosion near Delhi’s Red Fort, officials noted.
Arrest and Investigation
The accused, Suleman Khan, a resident of Harsaur village, was apprehended on the spot. Police said he has three prior criminal cases registered against him.
Alongside ammonium nitrate, the police also seized:
-
Nine cartons of detonators
-
Twelve cartons and fifteen bundles of blue fuse wire
-
Twelve cartons and five bundles of red fuse wire
Preliminary interrogation suggests that Suleman Khan was allegedly supplying explosives for both legal and illegal mining activities. A case has been filed under the Explosives Act, and central agencies have been notified for further investigation.
Security and Legal Implications
The seizure comes just before India’s Republic Day celebrations, highlighting the vigilance of law enforcement agencies in preventing potential threats. Central authorities are expected to question the accused as part of a wider probe into explosives supply networks in the region.
