Rajasthan and Haryana Finalize Yamuna Water Sharing Agreement for Shekhawati Region

Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma and Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Saini held a significant meeting in Delhi, where they finalized the Yamuna Water Sharing Agreement. The agreement ensures that Rajasthan will receive excess water from the Yamuna River during the rainy season, specifically benefiting the Shekhawati region. The meeting was attended by Union Jal Shakti Minister CR Patil.

Both states have agreed to form a joint task force to implement the agreement, which will oversee the distribution and management of the water. Haryana CM Nayab Saini emphasized that the water flowing away during the rainy season would now be redirected to benefit Rajasthan’s people. Rajasthan CM Bhajanlal Sharma expressed his satisfaction with the agreement, which has long been awaited by the people of Churu, Sikar, and Jhunjhunu districts, who will receive 577 million cubic meters of water from the Yamuna River.

The agreement had been a long-standing political issue in the region, and its resolution brings relief to the Shekhawati area, which has been waiting for water for years. The task force will soon begin working on the Detailed Project Report (DPR) to ensure the efficient implementation of the agreement.

This collaboration between Rajasthan and Haryana marks a major step forward in addressing water scarcity issues in the Shekhawati region, with both states working together to ensure sustainable water distribution.
