Rajasthan Floods: Surwal Dam Overflow, Villages Submerged in Sawai Madhopur

Relentless rainfall in Rajasthan has caused the Surwal Dam in Sawai Madhopur to overflow, triggering land collapses, massive flooding, and widespread destruction across several villages.

Massive Crater and Submerged Villages

Continuous heavy rain led to a large portion of land near affected villages caving in, forming a gaping crater and cutting off access routes. Entire settlements, including Surwal, Dhanoli, Gogor, Jadavata, Shesha, and Machhipura, are now submerged, with hundreds of homes inundated.

Residents have been forced to seek refuge on rooftops, while food and drinking water shortages complicate relief efforts. Washed-out roads and damaged infrastructure are slowing rescue operations.

Roads and Infrastructure Severely Impacted

The Lalsot-Kota Mega Highway has been submerged, with only tractors and trolleys able to navigate. Several areas in Tonk district, including Kalipaltan, Chatra Khatik, Kafila Bazar, Panch Batti, Dhannatlai, and Kachahari Road, have also experienced severe waterlogging and infrastructure damage.

Officials Inspect and Take Action

Rajasthan Minister Kirodi Lal Meena visited the affected zones, acknowledging the scale of destruction. He assured residents that compensation would be provided for losses, and officials were instructed to focus on drainage, rescue, and relief measures.

MP Harish Chandra Meena also inspected the area, emphasizing the urgent need for effective flood management.

Dausa and Amer Face Heavy Rainfall Fallout

In Dausa district, continuous rainfall for 24 hours has flooded neighborhoods, low-lying roads, and government offices. The service lane along Jaipur Road remains waterlogged, cutting off access to multiple residential colonies.

A portion of the Rambagh wall near Jwala Mata Temple, the route to Amer Fort, collapsed due to heavy rainfall. Elephant rides at the historic site have been suspended as a safety precaution.

Weather Advisory

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning for continued heavy rainfall, urging residents across Rajasthan to stay alert and exercise caution.
