Rajasthan’s New Approach to Weddings
Jaipur, Rajasthan is renowned for its extravagant weddings, but a recent event has taken a different approach, promoting simplicity and affordability. In a groundbreaking ceremony, 11 couples were married for just Rs 1 each, challenging the norms of lavish spending and dowry.
Affordable Matrimony for All
This special event was organized by the Marwar Sheikh, Sayed Mughal, and Pathan Vikas Samiti in Jodhpur. It marked their tenth mass wedding, with the aim of making marriage accessible to everyone. The initiative encourages couples to celebrate their unions without the burden of financial strain.
Support for Newlyweds
Committee president Sikandar Khan emphasized the mission of this event: to ease the marriage process for families and promote cost-effective celebrations. The newlyweds received essential household items like cupboards and utensils, generously donated by the community. Looking ahead, the committee plans to host weddings for 51 couples next year.
Community Contributions Drive Success
Over the past nine years, the committee has successfully organized nine mass weddings, raising over Rs 5 million through public donations. Sikandar highlighted the high costs associated with traditional weddings and the pressing need for affordable alternatives for families with limited resources.
This innovative approach to matrimony not only simplifies the wedding process but also fosters community support, ensuring that every couple can celebrate their special day without financial worry.
