IMD Forecasts Intense Weather Activity in Rajasthan
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for multiple regions across Rajasthan as a new western disturbance brings chances of thunderstorms, light rainfall, and dust storms over the next few days.
Affected Areas and Dates
According to IMD’s Jaipur division head Radheshyam Sharma, the impact of this active weather system will be seen on April 11 and 12, with the Jodhpur, Bikaner, Ajmer, Jaipur, Kota, Bharatpur, and Shekhawati regions most likely to experience severe dust storms and light rain after noon hours.
“Thunderstorms may form in northern and north-western Rajasthan, with strong winds and light showers expected in isolated pockets,” Sharma told ANI.
Orange Alert and Safety Advisory
The orange alert warns of possible lightning, rain, and hailstorms in areas including Jaipur city and surrounding regions, with wind speeds reaching up to 40 km/h. The IMD has urged residents to:
- Stay indoors during storm activity
- Unplug electronic devices
- Avoid sheltering under trees
- Take extra precautions around weak structures and katcha houses, which could suffer damage
Recent Weather Activity and Temperature Trends
On April 10, parts of Rajasthan already saw thunderstorm activity, marking the early impact of the approaching weather system. Before that, on April 9, a heatwave alert was issued for 24 hours.
Following the current cooling spell, temperatures are expected to rise again from April 14 and 15, especially in southwestern Rajasthan, as a new heatwave phase is predicted.
