Rajasthan Woman Rescues Family and Baby From Pond After Car Accident

Dungarpur, Rajasthan: A courageous act by Surta Parmar, 38, saved the life of a couple and their 11-month-old baby after their car plunged into a pond near Dharti Mata village. While some onlookers filmed the incident, Parmar took immediate action to rescue the family, earning widespread appreciation.

Heroic Rescue by Surta Parmar

On Tuesday, Parmar was performing her daily chores when a loud thud and commotion near a pond caught her attention. Rushing to the scene, she found a car submerged in water, with its occupants trapped inside. Many onlookers hesitated to act, but Parmar did not wait.

With her 15-year-old daughter, Ayushi, providing support with ropes, Parmar waded into the water and broke the car’s glass to free the trapped passengers. She first rescued the baby, Drish, before pulling Dharmesh Yadav and his wife Shilpa Yadav from the vehicle.

“I could hear the baby crying and knew I had to act. I couldn’t stop myself,” Parmar said.

Details of the Accident

The Yadav family was traveling from Dungarpur to Banswara for a wedding when their car hit a divider, lost control, and fell about 10 feet into the pond, roughly 200 meters from Parmar’s home. The couple had fainted, and the baby was crying when Parmar arrived at the scene.

Inside the car, Parmar also found a laptop, three mobile phones, and a pile of official enumeration forms belonging to Dharmesh Yadav, a Block Level Officer.

Medical Treatment and Recovery

The family was immediately taken to a local hospital, where the baby was treated and discharged. The parents, who sustained multiple fractures, were referred to a Udaipur hospital for surgery and are now reported to be out of danger.

Shilpa’s uncle, Dinesh Yadav, praised Parmar’s bravery:

“Had Surta Parmar not acted, we could have lost my niece and her family.”

A Personal Story of Compassion

Parmar shared that her own childhood was marked by hardship—her father abandoned her when she was an infant, and her mother passed away from cancer about ten years ago.

“For me, saving the Yadavs was not bravery. What would that baby do without his parents? I couldn’t ignore his cry,” she said.

Her selfless act has now inspired the local community and highlighted the courage and humanity present in ordinary individuals.
