Rajnath Singh’s Sikkim Visit Canceled Due to Inclement Weather, Virtual Inaugurations Planned

Adverse Weather Conditions Impact Scheduled Trip

Defense Minister Rajnath Singh’s visit to Sikkim, planned for October 11, has been canceled due to inclement weather. After arriving at Bagdogra airport, Singh was unable to take his scheduled helicopter flight to the region.

Virtual Inaugurations to Proceed from Siliguri

Despite the cancellation of his visit, Singh will conduct virtual inaugurations for several defense projects from the Sukna Military base in Siliguri, West Bengal. His original itinerary included attending an Army Commanders Conference at the 17 Mountain Division’s headquarters in Gangtok.

Memorial for Army Troops

Singh was also slated to inaugurate the Prerna Sthal in Bardang, Pakyong District. This memorial honors the 22 Army personnel who tragically lost their lives during the Glacial Lake Outburst Flood on October 4, 2023. Chief Minister Prem Singh Golay is expected to join the virtual ceremony for the memorial’s inauguration.

Future Plans Remain Uncertain

On Saturday, the defense minister was scheduled to inaugurate 75 projects by the Border Roads Organisation from Sherathang, located near the Indo-Tibet border at Nathula Pass. However, it remains uncertain how these plans will be affected by the recent developments.
