Bollywood superstars Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone have received interim relief from the Rajasthan High Court in a defective car case. The court has stayed the FIR filed against them in Bharatpur, providing temporary relief to the actors and six company officials of Hyundai Motors.
Background of the Case
A local car owner had lodged a complaint alleging that a vehicle sold to him through Hyundai Motors was defective. Since SRK and Deepika are brand ambassadors for Hyundai, their names were included in the FIR.
The actors’ legal teams argued that their role was strictly promotional. They had no involvement in the manufacturing or technical aspects of the cars.
Legal Representation
-
Shah Rukh Khan was represented by Senior Advocate Kapil Sibal.
-
Deepika Padukone was represented by Advocate Madhav Mitra.
Both counsels stated that the actors cannot be held responsible for the car’s quality as they have no direct control over Hyundai’s operations.
Court Observations and Interim Relief
During the hearing in Jodhpur, Justice Sudesh Bansal noted that the FIR lacked factual basis. Consequently, the High Court:
-
Ordered a stay on the FIR
-
Provided interim protection to SRK, Deepika, and Hyundai officials
The next hearing is scheduled for 25 September 2025.
